The controller for the data processing on this site is Oscar Woodruff.

In short

This statement covers masticfrog.de and the games linked from here on the same servers.

This website is a static site. It sets no cookies and loads nothing from third-party servers. The graphics come from masticfrog.de, the fonts from fonts.masticfrog.de, the analytics from analytics.masticfrog.de. All three names point at the same server in Germany, which we run ourselves. Only if you fill in the contact form does your message then travel through our mail sender; that is set out below.

The games

The games also set no cookies and load nothing from third-party servers. What they remember – language, settings, progress – stays in your browser's storage, is sent to no server, and disappears as soon as you clear the site data. There are no accounts.

The one exception is the quiz's leaderboard, which is optional. Only if you submit a score do a display name you choose and your result leave your device and get stored with us, so the list can be shown. Pick a name nobody has to recognise you by. Write to us any time if you want an entry removed.

Analytics

To see which pages are read at all, a Umami instance we run ourselves sits at analytics.masticfrog.de. No vendor service, nothing passed to third parties, no traffic leaving Germany.

Recorded per visit: the page called up, the referring page, browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language and country of origin. The IP address is not stored. It is used only to determine the country and to form a non-reversible identifier, under which repeat visits within one day are grouped; beyond that day the analytics recognises nobody again.

In doing so no cookie is set and nothing is stored on your device. The analytics touches browser storage at exactly one point: to read whether you have objected to it. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in knowing whether and what is read here (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Since 28 August 2026 two events are counted as well: that somebody opened the provider details on the legal notice page, and that somebody opened the controller’s address on this page. In each case only that it happened is counted, not by whom. The analytics stores as little doing so as it does for any page view: no identifier, no cookie, nothing on your device. If you have objected to the analytics, this event does not happen either.

The analytics follows the browser’s „Do Not Track“ setting on its own. Independently of that you can object to it here. The switch applies to this browser on this device, and is gone as soon as you clear site data.

Server log data

When the page is called up, the web server processes technically necessary connection data (IP address, time of the request, file requested, browser type transmitted). This data is required in order to deliver the page and to secure operation, and it is not combined with other data sources. Hosting is with Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany.

Contact form

Through the form on the home page you send us your email address, the text of your message and, if you give it, your name. We process this solely in order to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where it concerns steps prior to a contract, and otherwise our legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

The message is not stored on this website but delivered to us as email. For sending we use Mailjet (Mailjet SAS, France) as a processor; the message passes through their servers. It is delivered to hello@masticfrog.de and forwarded from there into our mailboxes. Messages are deleted as soon as they are no longer required for handling the enquiry and no retention obligations stand in the way.

So that the form is not used for junk, your browser has to solve a small arithmetic task before sending. It takes a fraction of a second and runs without you doing anything. No cookie is set and nothing is stored on your device in the process, and no third-party service is involved; the task is set by our own server. Your IP address is held briefly in memory to limit the number of messages per sender, and it appears in the email that reaches us. Beyond that it is not stored.

Contact by email

If you write to us directly by email, we process what you send (your address and the content of the message) in order to answer your enquiry. Messages are deleted as soon as they are no longer required for handling the enquiry and no retention obligations stand in the way.

Your rights

You have the right to information about the data stored about you, and to rectification, erasure and restriction of processing. Where we rely on a legitimate interest, and that is the case for the analytics, you may object to the processing under Art. 21 GDPR; for the analytics the switch above is enough. Otherwise write to the address named above. You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority.
